"Persistence pays off! They say dreams can't come true but that is not the case. If you diligently work on your dream, you can and may realize it. I am making my dreams come true this very second."
With an earnest desire and a clear vision for her future career, Jovana Popović, the Kul IN's alumni from Montenegro, together with colleagues from all over the world, successfully completed the pastry program. That the program was just the first step in realizing her long-term plans, Jovana quickly confirmed when she informed us about her new job at the luxury restaurant and wine hotel Meneghetti. The job offer followed after the Career Day at Kul IN. Kul IN hosts Career Day several times a year in cooperation with leading hotels and restaurants. The aim is to provide networking opportunities to students who may meet prospective employers there. Jovana today prepares and designs the recognizable desserts of the house, alongside the restaurant's pastry chef Dragana Lovrić Kovačević, and is successfully advancing her career, confirming that dreams really do come true.
ABOUT HER BEGINNINGS AND KUL IN
I started dreaming of a career in the pastry industry at a very early age. However, my parents, whose intentions were always honest and good, had other plans for me. When I was already 28, I started training to become a cook because, unfortunately, pastry training program did not exist. After that I worked as a cook for a while. Furthermore, I was an assistant to a pastry chef, so I got acquainted with the pastry profession as well. At that moment in my life, I decided it was time to follow my dreams.
After deciding to make pastry my profession, I went to look for schools online. Kul IN was among the best schools and has since proved to be a good choice. As a pastry amateur I learned a lot regarding both theory and practice. Now I can apply the acquired knowledge in a professional kitchen. Also, Kul IN has provided me with an advantage business-wise.
During Meneghetti's MasterClass at Kul IN, I had the opportunity to chat with the members of their team. They liked me and, eventually, offered me a job, which was a great opportunity because I wanted to stay in Croatia. I have been in Meneghetti for a month now.
Regarding desserts, we have three cards: day, room and menu desserts. There are a lot of them and I have only learned half of them (laughter). The day usually begins with preparations, ranging from various creams to decorations, while in the second shift we focus more on the finish and, ultimately, serving.
Definitely the Pears Belle Helene! It's the dessert I liked during Meneghetti's MasterClass at Kul IN. It actually belongs to the new menu that was presented at Kul IN on that occasion. When I tried the dessert, I knew it was truly something special.
